We have some exercises for those of you who prefer to run outside, rather than on a treadmill. These are not your average exercises.

Increase the pace: Set your incline at 1 percent and run for 10 minutes. This is your warming up. Set the pace to 2 minutes faster than usual. Continue at this pace for 3-4 minutes and then walk for another 3-4 minutes. This is one round. Do 3 to 5 rounds total.

Progression run: Warm-up with 5-10 minutes of easy running, as you usually do. Set the incline to 1 percent, and begin running at a pace of 5 miles per hour. You can increase your speed by 0.2mph per minute until you run out of air.

Take a half-mile break: Run for 15 to 20 minutes at a moderate pace. Half-mile run at 75 percent of your maximum effort. Once you reach the mark, jog 200 metres. This is one round. Do 6 to 8 rounds total.

The Horrible Hill Exercise: Warm up for 10 minutes. Set the incline to 8 percent, and sprint as hard as you can for thirty seconds. After 30 seconds, lower the incline back to 5 percent. Sprint again for 90 second, and then walk for another 2 minutes. This is one round. Do 6 to 9 rounds total.
