Step1: Lay back on a bench.

Step2: Lift the bar straight up and lock your arms. This is your starting position.

Step 3: Bring the bar slowly down from the starting position until it touches your middle chest.

Step 4: While exhaling, hold this position and then return to the beginning position. This is one rep. Repeat as desired.

When bench pressing, it is important to control your breathing. Exhale when lifting the weight and inhale as you lower it. Slowly lower the weight and ensure that you only touch your chest. At all times, you should be in complete control of the bar. Use a floor trainer or spotter to keep track if you have never done the exercise before.
